Built from the ground up
Overview
Paving that starts below the surface
Asphalt only performs as well as the work underneath it. A good-looking surface over a soft or poorly drained base will crack and rut within a few seasons, especially with the freeze-thaw swings we get every winter in Northern Indiana and Southwest Michigan. That's why every paving job we take on starts with the ground: digging out soft spots, shaping the grade so water runs off instead of sitting, and compacting a solid stone base before a single ton of hot mix arrives.
From there our crew handles the whole job with our own equipment, laying hot-mix asphalt at the right temperature and thickness, rolling it until it's dense, and finishing clean edges and smooth tie-ins at garages, roads and sidewalks. It's the same family crew from the estimate to the final walk-through, with no handoffs along the way.

Step by step
Our asphalt paving process
Walk the site
We measure, check drainage and soil, and talk through how you'll use the surface, then put a price in writing.
Prepare the ground
Excavate, haul off debris, then grade and compact the stone base so the finished surface drains and stays put.
Pave and roll
Hot mix goes down through the paver at a consistent thickness and is rolled while it's still hot for maximum density.
Finish and walk through
We clean up, check edges and transitions with you, and explain when you can drive on it and how to care for it.
Is it time?

FAQ
Asphalt Paving questions
More answers on our FAQ page, or call (574) 350-4142.
How thick will my new asphalt be?
It depends on what the surface will carry. Most residential driveways get 2 to 3 inches of compacted hot mix over a compacted stone base, while lots and lanes that see trucks get a thicker section, often placed in two layers. The thickness is written into your estimate so you can compare bids fairly.
When is paving season in Northern Indiana?
Asphalt plants in our area generally run from spring into late fall, and hot mix needs warm, dry conditions to lay and compact properly. Most paving happens from about April through November, and booking early in the year gives you the best choice of dates.
How long before I can drive on new asphalt?
Plan on two to three days before driving on it, a little longer in hot weather, and keep heavy trucks, campers and trailer jacks off it for the first few weeks. Fresh asphalt stays slightly soft while it cures, so avoid turning your wheels while parked during the first summer.
